It has been a hot minute since I’ve participated in Top 5 Wednesday on my blog or my YouTube channel. I’ve started slowly posting reviews about once a month but I’m ready to dip my toes back into the TAG pool. I absolutely love the list of spooky topics we get to cover this month! October was definitely a great place to start back with this TAG.
This weeks topic is Books Featuring Witches
I decided to step back in time to some of my favorite witchy books from my school years. We are time traveling all the way back to 3rd grade for this first book and will move forward from there!
1. Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone
Even though this book is first about a boy wizard, it was the beginning of a series that brought forth some of my favorite book witches. These witches include Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood, and Nymphadora Tonks. It gave us strong female characters that we could look up to and watch them fight against the forces of evil…and I think we all know that Harry would have been lost without them.
2. T*Witches by H.B. Gilmour & Randi Reisfeld
T*Witches was probably one of my first book series about witches. It revolves around two twin girls who find out they are witches as well as sisters and how those revelations twist and change their lives. I loved waiting for the next book to come out. I want to say I picked this one up at the Scholastic Book Fair one year and never looked away from the series. It is a great witchy series for younger readers.
3. Sweep by Cate Tiernan
Sweep is a step up in reading level from the T*Witches and revolves around a girl, named Morgan Rowlands, who with a few of her friends becomes a part of a coven of witches. Throughout the series, she begins to slowly learn the truth about who she is and what her past will say about her future. I began reading this book series when I was sick with Tonsillitis and had to keep returning to the bookstore every day to get the next book as I would easily finish one each day. Quick reads filled with drama, magic, and a little dose of romance.
4. The Crucible by Arthur Miller
It wouldn’t feel right not to include a story of the Salem Witch Trials. This play was required reading my Junior Year of high school and then my Senior Year our Drama classes performed the play. It is such a gripping play, that will keep you on edge as you see the hysteria of the witch trials unfold for the Proctors. If you haven’t read this play, I beg you to pick it up.
5. Balefire by Cate Tiernan
Balefire is a bind-up series of 4 books. Taking place in New Orleans, long-lost twins are reunited. One knows about magick and the other is thrust into this unknown world. Brought together they will learn about their family and the mystery that surrounds them. It is a quick read and I love that the book takes place in such a mystical setting of New Orleans and the French Quarter.
Now that you know a handful of my favorite books featuring witches I want to know…

I love finding other people who love Sweep! It’s such an underrated series but it brought so much joy to my life as a teen!
